WFEO's Committee on Disaster Risk Management, with the support of the Peruvian Engineers Association (CIP), organizes the online course Managing the risk of debris and mud flow-related disasters, bringing together distinguished specialists from different countries to address the subject through six topics:

  • Climate and mass flows: geographic distribution
  • Hazard maps for risk prevention and reduction
  • Vulnerability assessment of building and infrastructure
  • Early warning systems for debris and mudflows
  • Capacity building and social organization
  • Engineering solutions in mass flow-prone areas

The course, offered in English with translation to Spanish, starts April 13thΒ for a duration of 6 weeks.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Start: Tuesday 13 April 2021.

Duration: 6 weeks, one topic per week will be developed.

Dedication: 2 hours per topic

Language: English, with text in Spanish.

Platform: Moodle. Participants will only be able to log in on the start date with their username and password. Access to each topic will be given every Tuesday, starting at 9:00 am (Lima time). Participants will be able to access the platform from that time and at the time of their choice.

Format: Recorded, non-face-to-face topics by lecturers.

Reference material: There is a section with recommended readings by specialists in PDF format and links to websites.

Evaluation exercises: At the end of each topic, you will have to answer five multi-choice questions. The system will display the correct answers at the end to check against your answers.

Certificate: Those interested may apply once the course has been completed, which implies having participated in all the topics and answered the questions. The CIP will indicate how to pay the 50 USD fee.
