Alfonso Gonzalez, New WCCE President Elect
Eng. Alfonso Gonzalez has been appointed President Elect on June 30th, 2014. He will take over the presidency of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE) during its 10th General Assembly to be held in 2015. Mr. Gonzalez, a worldwide recognized engineering professional from Mexico will serve a three year term for the period 2016-2019. Alfonso Gonzalez suceeds Tomás Sancho, Spanish engineer.
He currently holds the Presidency of Federación de Colegios de Ingeniería Civil de la República Mexicana, the Mexican civil engineering professional organization. His areas of expertise are construction management, and land development. Civil Engineer (1985). Born in Mérida (Mexico), age 53 years, holds a brilliant academic record, culminating in his Civil Engineering studies in Yucatan University.

9th WCCE General Assembly
Autumn is coming and that is the time for WCCE's General Assembly. This time WCCE is travelling to old Europe as 9th WCCE's General Assembly will be hosted by ORDEM DOS ENGENHEIROS DE PORTUGAL, founding member of the organization. The activities regarding 9th WCCE General Assembly will be held from 21st to 25th November 2014 in Lisbon.
On the occasion of WCCE’s General Assembly, ORDEM will hold an international workshop on Heritage Building restoration at the same venue.
62nd General Assembly of the European Council of Civil Engineers
On 30 and 31 October the 62nd General Assembly of the European Council of Civil Engineers on the 30th anniversary of its foundation was held in Prague, hosted by the Czech Chamber of Authorized Professional and Technical Engineering. During this Assembly, WCCE President Alfonso Gonzalez attended the ECCE meeting invited by the President of the European Council, the Polish Wlodimiercz Szymczak.
Homage to Vassilis Economopoulos
During this meeting, ECCE paid tribute to the figure of our Greek colleague Vassilis Economopoulos, who passed away last October and held the office of President of the European Council of Civil Engineers from 2009 to 2011. Vassilis Economopoulos contributed to the WCCE initative by holding the office of treasurer since 2006 to 2008.
3rd UN Water Dialogue of Casa Solans: Water Safety Plans
As part of the UN Water Dialogue Series in Casa Solans, this 3rd dialogue addressed the issue of Water Safety Plans (WSPs). The 3rd edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality recommends the adoption and implementation of Water Safety Plans as the most effective means to consistently ensure the safety of drinking-water supplies at all levels, from catchment to consumer. This integrated tool requires engaging all stakeholders, from health and environment authorities to water operators and consumers. WSPs should be implemented within a public health context, respond to standard health and quality indicators and checked by independent surveillance. To debate on Water Safety Plans, implementation protocols and on specific challenges during the implementation phase in Spain and other countries, national experts and officers met and shared their experiences and recommendations with WHO representatives participating in this 3rd Dialogue.

The UN-Water Annual Zaragoza Conferences serve UN-Water to prepare for World Water Day. This conference is part of the road map for World Water Day 2014 focused on the nexus of water and energy, A focused dialogue to be initiated with the UN-Water seminar on the same topic during World Water Week in Stockholm. The Conference will be held in Zaragoza, Spain 13 to 16th January 2014.
